The bank initially issued notes that were registered (free bank), but in 1860/61, it shifted to issuing unregistered notes. The original design, which was initially intended for registered notes, underwent modifications. The state treasurer die was removed, replaced by the state coat of arms, and the countersignature line was eliminated. This change occurred shortly after the commencement of the Civil War, and as the inventories of pre-war notes had not yet been exhausted, the transition took place smoothly. This appealing note, printed in black with red overprint and green underprint, is considered rare; in 2020 Heritage knew of only 8-9 notes extant in any condition. I've bumped it to 11-12 with the existence of this note and just in case any others popped up since.
This note is a steal at this price.
