1874 & 1878 $3 Princess Gold Coins Pin - About Uncirculated Details

Really neat medal-like pin with two $3 Princess gold coins attached. Both coins are of course guaranteed genuine and present strong AU details. At this price, they are a virtual steal as it is highly likely (should anyone ever desire) they could be unmounted and mostly fixed. Like the other pieces this was purchased with we suspect this was made around the mid to late 1920s. This is a one owner piece passed down.

By some accounts the primary purpose for the $3 gold coin was to make the purchase of larger quantities of 3¢ stamps easier. Whatever the reason, this "odd" denomination is always in demand and one of the more interesting coins in U.S. history.
