Scarce by any measure, August Bechtler gold coins were made from both Georgia and North Carolina gold (the chief states supplying U.S. gold until the California strikes of 1848.) It is fair to say the majority of $1 denomination coins suffered through the years, many likely leaving the Bechtler's private mint bent and or poorly struck from deteriorating dies. Finding any problem free coin in XF or above grade is always a gift. But, even the bent specimens are highly sought after.
