Scarce by any measure, August Bechtler gold coins were made from both Georgia and North Carolina gold (the chief states supplying U.S. gold until the California strikes of 1848.) It is fair to say the majority of $1 denomination coins suffered through the years, many likely leaving the Bechtler's private mint bent and or poorly struck from deteriorating dies. Finding any problem free coin in XF or above grade is always a gift.
I recently purchased three specimens (this one included) of this variety (Kagin-24) from a gentlemen over the counter that could trace them back to a doctor/surgeon in their family – so all three specimens were true one-family heirlooms. Don't miss this opportunity to own a monster specimen of a truly scarce piece of American gold history.
Attached you will find our pictures, as well as the PCGS Trueview for this specific coin.
